What We are Trying to Achieve - Civil & Revolutionary Women Soldier
This is our history fair project. In this site, we will explain everything you ever wanted to know, needed to know, and even some things you don't need to know or want to know, for that matter, about women soldiers in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars. We are desperate to be in the finals AND get an A+ so we will include ABSOLUTELY EVERYTHING. Even this: incorrect historians spelled Deborah Sampson's name wrong. But more about that later. Right now we wanted to make an announcement. THOSE OF YOU WHO THINK WOMEN ARE WIMPS: FYI - WE WERE THERE TOO!!! Some major figures of women in the military history are Deborah Samson, Margeret Corbin, Anne Bailey, Satronia Smith Hunt, Mary Stevens Jenkins, and many more.
The untold and unremembered stories of extraordinary women stepping up in the Revolutionary and Civil Wars There have been many tales left to unwind about men taking a stand in these wars, but where were the women in these stories? Cooking, cleaning, and sewing like good little housewives, never rewarded except for when their husbands come home, for they had only awe and pride for their mates. Well, while these women surely loved their husbands, they didn't always do as they were told. By anybody. They followed their hearts and fought for freedom, or in some cases no freedom. As women soldiers were illegal back in those days, they became masters (we mean mistresses) of disguise. They dressed in men's clothing and enlisted with male pseudonyms. Nothing would stop them from fighting for their cause. And we mean nothing. Not even the law. Sounds interesting? There's a lot of hidden history that is, but we'll just use these examples. So go forth and learn!

We told you this topic was interesting. Kind of drags you in, huh? There were thousands of unknown women caught in the rage of these battles, possibly more, placed in a military cemetery under a tombstone labeled with their male alias. These females were heroic, so why do we not learn about them in our textbooks?

We Fight Now by Victoria Lewandowski

women were there too
yes but we go unnoticed
in books and medals

said we were unable
we proved them wrong for sure
many women fought for...

justice in the war
effort and being able
to help our country

help more than nursing
but fight for justice without
wearing disguises

help freedom forever
and our country's welfare
we fight now !

Let's go! by Aurora Surber

there were a few
who stood up
they said let's go
and fight
because i know
we're right
our country
will stay
through everything
and we will
have victory;
not because we won
but because we
fought
